Key Takeaways

  • Training priorities should include conventional weight training once or twice a week to maintain muscle mass and healthy glucose levels
  • If you increase your muscle mass while doing workouts prior to a meal, your glucose disposal will improve
  • “My body tends to just down-regulate… my nervous system downshifts a lot when I’m surrounded by nature” Tim Ferriss
  • Increase fish oil, specifically EPA, to at least one gram per day and take magnesium to improve sleep
  • In generative art, an artist writes an algorithm that defines the basic parameters of a piece of art, then introduces some randomness to it

Intro

Kevin Rose (@KevinRose), is an Internet entrepreneur who co-founded Revision3, Digg, Pownce, and Milk.

Training Priorities

  • Training priorities should include conventional weight training once or twice a week to maintain muscle mass and to maintain healthy glucose levels
  • If you increase your muscle mass while doing workouts prior to a meal, your glucose disposal will improve
  • Tim focuses on flexibility like AcroYoga which involves handstand work, inversion, and a lot of pressing
  • A Jefferson curl is effectively a slow, rounded back, stiff leg deadlift with very light weights while rolling down vertebra by vertebra

What is PNF?

  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) – involves partner stretching
    • Example: Lift your leg while you’re on your back while your partner pushes it until you reach the end range of your hamstring
  • Do PNF only a few times a week
  • Tim also uses weighted backpacks or rucksacks for his workouts

Training Style

  • Tim does some high rep work, like the kettlebell swings using a 53-pound and then a 72-pound kettlebell doing two and one-handed swings
  • Try inversion training which develops  finger strength and shoulder extension
  • Pilates is a favorite: “I have never felt better than when I am doing a combination if I look back at when I have felt the strongest, the fastest, the most limber, it’s when I was doing a combination of Olympic weightlifting, Pilates, and AcroYoga.” – Tim Ferriss

How To Enhance Sleep

  • Increase fish oil, specifically EPA, to at least one gram per day and take magnesium
  • Pay attention to circadian and cyclical cues – as soon as you wake up, go outside and spend at least five minutes in the sun
  • “I’ve really been trying to very consistently get sun, even if it’s cloudy outside, as soon as I get up, and I’ve been having some of the best sleep of my life.”- Tim Ferriss
  • Having more than two alcoholic drinks compromises sleep quality
  • Having a drink earlier, like at 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., allows your body time to metabolize it before bed
  • Other things that help sleep quality include time in a sauna and meditating

NFT’s: Non-Fungible Tokens

  • NFT’s are unique assets that can be transferred and traded
  • There was never a way to capture and save computer art years ago but then blockchain provided a way to save the output
  • In generative art, an artist writes an algorithm that defines the basic parameters of a piece of art, then introduces some randomness to it
  • When you click to mint a piece of generative art, you are putting a timestamp of randomness into the algorithm and it spits out your unique piece of art
  • “People collect them because they love the kind of luck of the draw in what you’re going to get. This is kind of a new form that is only possible or enabled by the blockchain, which I think is really fun.” – Tim Ferriss
  • Art Blocks did two million in secondary sales of all of their works of art two months ago and last month did over nine million

What do you foresee as developments in the crypto or blockchain space?

  • “I would say that unless you’re educated and you are really deep in the space and you’re listening to all the podcasts and you’re reading all the different CoinDesk articles every morning then you can probably go out there and say, “I believe I see where the momentum is taking things.” – Kevin Rose
  • People get burned when someone starts up a new coin, makes a meme around it, pumps it, and then dumps it

 Bitcoin and Chia

  • “Bitcoin is a very dirty currency but the mining operations have really led to a lot of renewable energy. In other places, it’s running purely off of coal.” – Kevin Rose
  • Chia is a cryptocurrency that was created by Bram Cohen, who’s the inventor of BitTorrent
  • Chia uses one 1000th of the amount of energy of a Bitcoin CPU or GPU
  • To mine Bitcoin today, you would have to go out and buy a custom, kind of A6 custom processor rig, or a really fast GPU and spend thousands of dollars
  • With something like Chia you don’t really need the hardware requirements

Three Risks of Cryptocurrencies

  • 1: Regulation causes some instability in the markets when other countries ban cryptocurrencies
  • 2: The meme coins that rise to the top are a risk because people think that just because it’s a Top 25 traded coin, they should buy it
  • 3: People take on too much risk and do a panic sale
  • “Don’t freak out if there’s a big dip. I think that the mistake a lot of cryptocurrency holders are doing today is that they’re holding their cryptocurrency where they’re not earning anything for it.-“ Kevin Rose
