What myth of misconception in the health industry bothers you most?

  • Marie
    • People have lost touch with the ability to listen to their own bodies and instead blindly follow diet trends
      • If you eat something your body doesn’t like, it’ll let you know through some sort of physical symptom (inflammation, upset stomach etc.) – so pay attention
      • Your own body is the best indicator of whether or not a diet is right for you

    • Alkaline water (aka hydrogen-rich water) isn’t something you should be drinking all the time (but on occasion – it can reduce inflammation, increase cognitive function, and return the body to a state of homeostasis)
      • Alkaline water has a higher pH level than regular drinking water. Because of this, some advocates believe it can neutralize the acid in your body. Normal drinking water generally has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water typically has a pH of 8 or 9.
    • Why shouldn’t you drink it all the time? – It’ll neutralize your stomach acid, making it more difficult to digest food

    • Listen to your own body – diets and supplements work differently for different people

How do you handle negative emotions that come up in your day to day life?

  • Marie
    • You first have to acknowledge you’re having a negative emotion and not suppress it 
    • It then comes down to acceptance and expressing the emotion in a healthy way
    • But ultimately, you want to release the emotion – “Our bodies are like repositories. When we have negative emotions that we don’t express, we store them and they become stress, tension, and pain. Release and let them go.”

    • Crosby is a huge proponent of breath work exercises 
      • “Our negative emotions and how we deal with them have a lot to deal with our breathing”

    • Instead of trying to push the negative emotions away, listen and learn from them

    • In general – don’t suppress your negative emotions, but instead use them as indicators and turn them to gold
      • Ask yourself : “What is this emotion showing me about my environment?” – Based on your answer, adapt

    • Have a 90/10 mindset
      • 90% of the time – go all out health wise
      • But 10% of the time – eat the burger and have a drink with your friends, it won’t kill you

    • Develop good health foundations so that you feel comfortable enough “cheating” once in a while. You’ll be fine as long as you’re doing your best.

    • No matter how much you try to be healthy, good connections and relationships will give you far more joy
